Velda Mae Arceneaux Young Velda Mae Arceneaux Young was 78 years young when she left to join her sons, husband and many other beloved relatives and friends. She passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 19, 2011. Velda spent her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and Who Dat Fan. Velda was born on December 31, 1932 in Springfield, Louisiana to Louis Arceneaux and Tothice Sanchez Arceneaux Bercegay. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1951. She loved sports and excelled as a basketball player despite being 5?0??. Velda married Tommy Young in 1952 and together they raised five children. Velda leaves behind her four children and their spouses, Tommy and Annie Monistere Young, Debby and Chris Huber, Alicia Jones and Gene, Eric and Misty Young; grandchildren, Tommy Hennesy, Cody Jones and wife Ronnie, Austin Jones, Heather Armato and husband Pete, Alicia Young and Noah Young; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Carson Armato, Riley Derrick and Addie Jones. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Anna Arceneaux and Nettie Arceneaux; her good friend and niece, Betty Crane Crisp. Preceding Velda in death were her husband, Tommy Young; two sons, John Bryant and Derrick Desmond; parents, Louis and Tothice; step-father, Rene Bercegay; nine siblings, Alma Crane, Milton Arceneaux, Hillary Arceneaux, Felix ?Bay? Arceneaux, Louise Hodges, Wilford Arceneaux, Calvin ?Boy? Arceneaux, Doris Graves and Leroy Arceneaux. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home on Monday, February 21st from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service time.
