Norma Jean King Doughty

Norma Jean King Doughty, born June 3,1935, a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 25, 2023 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband Carter Lee Doughty and her son Joseph Larken Doughty; her parents Lenwood and Ruby Tynes King; siblings Ray King, Joyce King Gill, Imelda King Broussard, and Gene King, all of Louisiana, and Linda Ann King Smith of Brookhaven, MS. She is survived by her grandchildren Luke Doughty and Caroline Doughty ; a great grandson, Justin; her sibling, Glenn (Beverly) King of Holden. She is also survived by her brother-in laws Louis Broussard and Johnny Gill, Charla Kaulk, and her many special nieces and nephews. Norma graduated from Holden High School in 1953 and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. She loved working with young students at Holden School for over 30 years. Her joy was helping them to read and excel in school. When her retirement was announced at a Christmas program, she was given a standing ovation by the entire school, for her service. She was an active member of Holden Baptist Church for over 75 years and enjoyed her ladies Sunday School class. Norma and Carter enjoyed traveling to different places across the country and especially enjoyed visiting their son and their grandchildren. When Norma began to have failing health, Danette Broussard and Billie Hutchinson lovingly cared for her. When she needed twenty-four hour care, the family was blessed to have Kathy Magee live with her and loving take care of her until her death. Several neighbors constantly checked on her well-being including her brother, Glenn. Norma was a special friend to many. Her sweet smile, up until her death, made everyone around her feel better about themselves. Her sweetness, kindness, and thoughtful personality made her loved by many at Holden School, Holden Baptist Church, and the entire community. Her nephews will be serving as pallbearers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70403 on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Russell Hinson will officiate and interment will follow in Stafford Cemetery.
