Mary Christian Allen

Mary Christian Allen, a devoted mother, beloved Mimi, passionate educator, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 16, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 6, 1947, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Mary spent her childhood in Port Arthur, Texas, before moving to Louisiana to attend LSU in Baton Rouge. There, she earned her degree in Elementary Education and began her life’s work in the classroom. Teaching was not only Mary’s career—it was her ministry. She poured her heart into helping children learn, grow, and feel seen and valued. Her dedication to education continued even in later years, as she returned to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. She went on to work with the Louisiana State Department of Education as a Distinguished Educator, sharing her knowledge and wisdom with teachers and schools across the state. Mary was a devout Christian who found deep joy and peace in studying God’s Word. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and a source of comfort and strength to her family and all who knew her. She lived her life with grace, humility, compassion, and a loving spirit that reflected the heart of Christ. She was most affectionately known as “Mom” and “Mimi” to her family, roles she cherished above all. Mary is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Allen Vicknair (Jared) of St. Francisville, LA, and Sara Allen McCumsey (M. Scott) of Mandeville, LA; her sister, Diana Lauhon; special family member, Jennifer Davis-Pound; and her five grandchildren: Christian Antle, Luci McCumsey, Isabella McCumsey, Caroline McCumsey, and Michael McCumsey. She is also lovingly remembered by many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Mary was preceded in death by her cherished son, Jeffrey Allen; her father, Robert Christian; her mother, Bernice Lonquest-Guillory; her stepfather, John “Doc” Guillory; her stepmother, Thelma Christian; her brother, Steve Christian, and the father of her children, Alvin Allen. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Mary’s final days. Their kindness was a true blessing. Mary Christian Allen’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the enduring faith she instilled in her family. A memorial service for Mary will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 7738 Florida Blvd., Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Friday, April 25. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the service at 12:00 PM.
