Marian Olinda Davis Clayton

Marian, age 98, went to her heavenly home on November 14, 2023. She was born on May 5, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. Marian worked at Yeamen’s Tool Company in Saginaw, where she ground tools and files, which were shaped liked mushrooms. Then she moved to California and worked at Ryan Airplane Plant as a real-life ‘Rosie The Riveter’. Marian was not a veteran, but she helped build the airplanes flown by the soldiers in the war. She married Stanley Clayton on October 9, 1945 in San Diego, the same year he was discharged from the Navy. They moved to Albany, Louisiana to be close to his family. Together, they raised seven children and ran a successful plant nursery from their home for many years until finally moving into Belle Maison Nursing Home. Marian is survived by her sister, Bernice Ogden of Grapevine, Texas; brother, Gerald Davis of Kentwood, Louisiana; daughters, Mary Ann Sharp (Ray) of Bush, Louisiana, Betty Ruth Font of Albany, Louisiana, Janet Clayton of Osyka, Mississippi, Joyce Louise McDonald (Norman) of Bay Springs, Mississippi, and Sandra Clayton of Lusby, Maryland; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Marian is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Clayton; parents, Orville Herman Davis and Minnie Matilda Laurenz Davis; son-in-law, Ned Font; infant brother, Gene Arnold Davis; brother, Sonny Davis of Michigan; sister, Thelma Johnson of Watson, Louisiana; two sons, Henry Allen Clayton of Walker, Louisiana, and Jimmie Allen Clayton of Hammond, Louisiana; and grandchild, Ashley Clayton. Marian loved her charities, Father Scott Donahue Mercy Home For Boys and Girls; Easter Seals; Father Flanogan’s Boy’s Home; Veterans and Disabled Veterans; and was a charter member of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. She had a devoted pen pal and friend of forty years, Cletus Murphy of Wingo, Kentucky, receiving his letters in the mail was the highlight of her day. She was also a published author of poems in the books: Treasured Poems of America and Gulf Coast Writers Association’s Magnolia Quarterly. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson, 12012 Hwy 190 West, Hammond, LA. on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery.
