Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Deslatte

Kenny, born March 15, 1950, who was a native of French Settlement and longtime resident of Albany, passed unexpectedly on Friday, May 8th, 2026. His larger-than-life personality left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Kenny never met a stranger; Whether he walked into a room full of lifelong friends or complete strangers, he was certain to leave having made new friends and shared a few stories along the way. Known affectionately by the nickname “Slick,” given to him by his wife, Brenda, Kenny had a personality that was impossible to forget. He was persuasive, charming, and somehow always managed to get his way—usually with a grin, a story, and a laugh that made it hard to tell him no. Kenny was an entrepreneur at heart and spent his life chasing dreams, building businesses, and creating memories. One of his proudest accomplishments was building Bayview in French Settlement, where he welcomed thousands of tourists over the years to experience the rich Cajun food, culture, and hospitality that he loved so deeply. By trade, Kenny was a skilled millwright whose work carried him across many parts of the country. Even after retirement, he never truly slowed down. Every few years, an opportunity would come along too good to pass up, giving him the chance to travel, meet new people, and make more memories alongside his best friend and wife, Brenda. An avid outdoorsman his entire life, Kenny found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, especially at their beloved Bayou Sorrel camp. More than anything, his greatest passion was running rabbit dogs. Whether he had a full pack or was simply planning for the next hunt, rabbit hunting was always his passion. But above all, Kenny’s greatest joy was his family—especially his grandchildren. He loved sharing his hobbies and teaching them everything he knew. From weeks spent at the camp to squirrel hunts, rabbit hunts, hoop net fishing, and noodle fishing, he made sure they experienced the outdoors and the hobbies he loved. He loved loudly, generously, and wholeheartedly, and he was incredibly proud of the family he built. Kenny also found great happiness in entertaining those he loved. He was known for his exceptional cooking, his open door, and his ability to turn any gathering into a celebration. Hosting family and friends filled his heart, and the memories made at those get-togethers will live on forever. Kenny truly lived life to the fullest until the very end. In the week before his unexpected passing, he was doing what he loved most—spending time with friends at the fishing camp, making memories, and enjoying life. His sudden loss has left his family heartbroken, but they take comfort in knowing he lived fully, loved deeply, and created a lifetime of stories that will continue to be shared for generations to come. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Kinchen Deslatte; children, Aimee Deslatte Wheat (Brad), Justin Slade (Trisha), and Jessica Slade Saucier (James); grandchildren, Matthew, Abigail, Grayson, and Lawson Wheat, Chance and Imogene Slade, Dallas and Austin Griffitt and Noah Saucier. He is also survived by special nephews and niece, whom he loved like grandchildren, Colin, Parker, and Clara Amerson, and Laramie Kinchen. Sister, Donnice Deslatte Hendry, and sister-in-law, Belinda Kinchen Amerson, and brother-in-law Randy Kinchen (Lanette). Kenny treasured the lifelong friendships he shared with Gerald and Shereen Purvis and Don and Carol Griffin, who he considered family in every sense of the word. He also leaves behind a long list of dear friends whom he loved deeply and considered family. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Angel Grace Wheat. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A service will be held at 8:00 p.m. with Bro. Errol Faust officiating.
