John Joseph Dickerson Sr.

John, age 78, passed away on May 24, 2024. John honorably served his country in the United States Army. He held many different careers in his life, a truck driver, working construction, and experienced plumber. John loved to garden, hunt, and fish. He loved his family, but it was the ones that named him Paw-Paw that held his heart. John will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. He is at peace and comfortable at home in Heaven now. He is on his third pot of coffee with Jimmy, Harvey, and John Jr. We hope Jesus is ready for a garden, lots of talking and, goodness, probably even a few excellent scaffolds scattered here and there. Jimmy was waiting at the pearly gates for his brother and gave him and big ol’ bear hug Friday morning when he got there. We are hoping he let Grandma, Grandpa, Harvey, and John Jr. get a turn too, but he probably had them in formation and jumped the line. John is survived by his daughters, Elaine Loraine Dickerson, Towana Ann Dickerson-Simmons (Stan), and Victoria Lynn Dickerson; son, James Ernest Dickerson (Misty); step-son, Brian Edward Jolley (Serena); sister, Patsy Ruth Dickerson Smith; brothers, Luther “Butch” Dickerson Jr. (Barbara), Albert “Bert” Leroy Dickerson (Debbie), David “Danny” Daniel Dickerson (Chris), Lazon “Lonnie” Warren Dickerson (Patricia), and Lloyd “Ricky” Richard Dickerson (Patricia); 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and Paw-Paw to so many others. John is preceded by his son, John Joseph Dickerson Jr.; parents, Luther and Ethel Dickerson; brothers, James Ernest Dickerson and Harvey Armston Dickerson; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Smith. For the special care that she gave him, his daughter-in-law Misty Dickerson, really was a daughter at heart giving her heart, soul, time, energy, patience, and understanding to her second “dad” for the last 6 years. Pallbearers will be John Mark Dickerson, Shaun Michael Dickerson, Jonathan James Eleser, Mark Dean Eleser, James Michael McGovern, and Harvey Davis Dickerson. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 West, Hammond, LA. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Joey Wampler will officiate with an interment to follow in Natalbany Cemetery in Independence, LA.
