James "Jim" Oxner Sr.

Jim, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was a native of Mobile, Alabama and a current resident of Maurepas, Louisiana. Jim was a graduate of Vigor High School in Prichard, Alabama and later attended some college courses. He proudly served in the Marine Corps as a Radiotelephone Technical Operator from 1955 until 1958. Jim bravely participated in maneuvers in the Caribbean from March until September in 1957. He was a member of the Choctaw Detachment #778 of the Marine Corps League. Jim was a retired Heavy Crane Operator for many companies throughout his career. Jim loved his profession deeply and was a most excellent operator. He built many bridges in the United States and other places around the globe. He owned antique cars and enjoyed showing them off at car shows in his spare time. Jim was also a member of the Redstick Model A Club. He was caring, compassionate, and loving. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell to make people laugh. He was overall just a fun person to be around. He was also a generous person to anyone in need. Jim was loved and revered by many- especially his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grandfather, and son who will be forever missed. Jim is survived by his daughter, Pam Oxner Guedry of Gonzales, Louisiana and husband Charles W. Guedry; son, Michael Lee Oxner of Summerville, South Carolina and wife, Sheralyn T. Oxner; sister, Jeanette Oxner Pierce of Livingston, Louisiana and husband, William Pierce; and grandchildren, Jacob P. Oxner, Dorothy Oxner, and Mckayla Oxner Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Joiner Oxner; son, James “Jimmy” Oxner Jr.; parents, Robert and Annie Oxner; and brother, George “Larry” Oxner. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home 7738 Florida Blvd. Denham Springs, LA 70726, on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Magnolia Room at Brandon G.
