Evelyn Cooper Pigott

Evelyn Marie Cooper McCarter Pigott, a lifelong Louisiana native, born in Robert on August 30, 1955, and longtime resident of Springfield, made her journey to the Promised Land in the late evening of November 5, 2024. Evelyn was born to Mildred (Mamou) Harter Cooper Baham and the late Seymour Cooper. She was the wife of John S Pigott. Upon Seymour's death, Preston A. Baham graciously and proudly filled those shoes as he took on the roll of Dad duties to Evelyn and her brother Danny, whom both fondly referred to as Pops. Her "Dads" were loved equally. Evelyn's life revolved around her children, Rochelle McCarter Miles (Lee), Dee McCarter (Robert), Richard Wayne McCarter (Lena), Mildred Sissy Bickford (Travis), and daughter, Erica Pigott Bearden (Albert). Her grandchildren whom she worshipped and who equally worshipped her are Greyson Miles, Preston McCarter (Brianna), Devon Dorsey (Rebecca), Christian McCarter (Dahlia), Zachary McCarter (Nicole), the only granddaughter, Mikayla McCarter, Jesse Bickford (Shaylee), Connor Bickford, and Trent Bickford. Evelyn was blessed with great-grandchildren, River, Maverick, Hayes, Rhett, Sebastian, and a great-granddaughter due next month in late December. In addition to Evelyn's biological grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was affectionately known to many, actually to most everyone who came into her life, as Maw Maw Pie. In her eyes and her heart, they were all her grandchildren. Evelyn was known to most every family member and longtime friend as Pie/Piezy (her childhood nickname given because she was her mother's "sweety pie"). To her grandchildren she was affectionately known as Maw Maw Pie, and that included the biological grandchildren as well as the many other children, friends, and family who knew and loved her. Evelyn 's canine family included many rescue Shih Tzu dogs over the years. "Sugar" was her special canine child though. When her children would jokingly ask " Mom, if you could only rescue one of your children or one of your dogs, which would it be?" Her response was always " my dog, of course!" This was always spoken with a sheepish grin but was never determined whether that was her truth. We all know, if she loved you, she loved you equally, whether it be family, friend, canine, or feline. Evelyn was a longtime proud and active member of the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 68, and served as State President of the Louisiana Chapter of the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an active, longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. She was a longtime and faithful member of Good News Fellowship Church. Evelyn was a saved Christian at a very young age and has an unwavering faith throughout her life. Evelyn's was a professional caregiver who could not have been any prouder of her career...she truly and wholeheartedly loved her job. She served many over the years, with one being a twenty-year caregiver position that was a little extra special to her heart. While keeping professionalism in the forefront, a deep and lasting friendship was born of this caretaking duty. Evelyn was a caregiver in every aspect...on or off the "job". If Evelyn knew of a need, she never failed to step up and fill that need. It didn't matter who you were or if you had money to offer, if you needed care, you got it from her...she was everyone’s Piezy, and Maw Maw Pie to the younger generations. Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Seymour Cooper; brother, Daniel (Danny) Cooper; son, Richard Wayne McCarter; infant daughter, Elizabeth Marie McCarter; her children's father, Richard Lee McCarter, Preston Baham, (Pop's); and son-in-law, Robert Baker. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W Hammond, LA 70401, on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery.
