David G. Coats

David went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the age of 84. He was born and raised on Carter Cemetery Road in Springfield, Louisiana. David was a United States Air Force Veteran and was a Deputy Chief who served 35 honorable years in the Baton Rouge Fire Department. He was a Deacon for Springfield Baptist Church since he was 27 years old. David and his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren enjoyed working in his extensive garden, riding on his tractor, and fishing. He enjoyed working with tractors, especially his favorite Kubota Tractor. David was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who is already deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years. Odelia Gregoire Coats; daughters, Jo Ann Coats deNux and husband Johnny, Stacy Coats Leblanc and Barbara Rushing, Rhonda Coats Schliegelmeyer and husband John Jr; brother, Johnny Coats and wife Ann; grandchildren. Kristen Brunies Guidry, Whitney Brunies and Jennifer Brunett; great-grandchildren, Alexis Dee Baio, Keith Dale Hoyt, Wyatt Anthony Trahan; and his favorite Kubota Tractor. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Alice Coats; brothers, Henry, Bob, Jack, Gene Allen, Dallas Coats; sisters, Thelma Coats Boullion, Lilly Coats Triche; and sons-in-law, Keith Brunies and Larry Leblanc. The family would like to thank Modern Home Health Hospice and caregivers; Renee, Tamra, Vanessa, Joyce, and Lacy for their outstanding care. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Bro. Daryl Woorley will officiate the service with interment to follow in Carter Cemetery.
