Bill, age 90, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020. He was born in Portland, ME, a native of St. Petersburg, FL, and a resident of LaPlace then Ponchatoula, LA. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Coast Guard, which led him to a lifelong career in electronics. He was a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Hammond and a member of the Livingston Masonic Lodge No. 160. He was also a longtime volunteer fireman in LaPlace and Killian, LA, as well as a Ham Radio Operator, KB5SKW. Bill was extremely intelligent and could fix practically anything. Everyone who knew him, even his neighbors, would call to get instructions on how to fix things. He loved to talk politics and fix antique radios. Bill's true passion was being a Grand Dad , which he took great pride in. He truly was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed. Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret F. Borstel; daughters, Martha Borstel, Kathryn Brown Walsh, Beverly Whiteley (Joseph); sons, Edward Borstel (Patricia), Brant Brown (Faith), Frederic Borstel (Jessica); sister, Trudy Anderson (Jack); grandchildren, Allison Walsh, Kaylin Walsh, Elizabeth Mathiak (Hans), Hannah Borstel-Sexton (Tyler), Asher Brown, Rebecca Brown, Benjamin Brown, Ruth Brown, Maggie Borstel, Audrey Borstel, Camille Borstel; great-grandchildren, Easton Daniel Walsh, Matteo Mathiak, Tobias Mathiak, Korban Mathiak, Aviel Mathiak; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Borstel and Ursula Kendrick; and brother, Grant Kendrick.
