April 25, 1954 - April 8, 2022
Valerie Maggs Woodcox was a genuinely beautiful and kind person. She was born on the tropical island of Trinidad on April 25 1954. She was the daughter of a British WW2 veteran father and a German Italian mother. She grew up as an island girl with tan skin and a love for swimming. She would later become a world traveler as an airline stewardess. She loved the water and was an excellent swimmer, teaching many young kids how to swim. She even swam with sharks! She had a special love for animals and plants. But her greatest love was for her children. She always made them feel loved. She was kind and generous to a fault. But it was a beautiful example of how to treat others even at the cost of her own comfort. This is the kind of person she was. Even when she was wronged, she found it easy to forgive. She will be remembered fondly by all those that had the privilege to know her. In her final months she would say, “I just want to go and be with God.” She trusted in Jesus as her Savior and Lord and understood that He was the only way to be forgiven and brought into the presence of God. This is what happened around 9 am on the morning of April 9th, 2022. Valerie left her battle with sickness and entered into an eternal and glorious rest in the presence of Jesus. She will be greatly missed. Lindsay McDougall says of her, “Valerie was my beloved life partner and best friend for sixteen years in Baton Rouge, LA. We lived a simple life together with our dog Coco, our cats JJ and Jake, and many friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed, and she will always be with us." She is preceded in death by her mother, Ramona Maggs, and father Douglas John Maggs. She is survived by her two sons Avery Dixon and Dean Dixon, daughter Michelle Woodcox, Life Partner Lindsay McDougall, step daughters Patricia Moree and Jessica Stroud, grandchildren Aiden Dixon, Mia Dixon, Nathaniel Dixon, Benjamin Dixon, Devan Thomas and Maximus Latting, brother Bruce Maggs, sister Judith Phelan and step mother Ann Maggs. Our Mom was a beautiful soul and we are forever grateful to her for her unconditional love. We ask for people to donate to trinity Baptist Church Children or Youth ministries instead of flowers.
