Sue Armstrong Harper Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, Sue Harper passed peacefully to her Heavenly home on February 26, 2022. Sue was surrounded by her devoted husband of 47 years and loving daughter as her physical pain ended. Sue was born and raised in Alabama but moved to Louisiana in 1968 to attend Southeastern Louisiana University, where she earned several undergraduate and master's degrees. It was at SLU where she met the love of her life, her future husband Tommy Harper. She easily acclimated to her new home state and soon began a family having one child, her daughter Beth and later her cherished grandson, J. T. Sue was an avid reader, traveler, artist, gardener, baseball fan, and loved spending time with her family and many, many friends. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and participating in numerous Bible Studies. She was a devout Christian that spent most of her free time giving back to others in need including volunteering at the Tangi Food Pantry, Baptist Friendship House, CASA, and North Oaks among many others. She spent 37 years in the school system helping to educate countless students that all had a special place in her heart. She loved learning as much as she loved teaching. Sue is survived by her husband Thomas "Tommy" Harper; daughter Elizabeth "Beth" Harper; grandson James Thomas "J.T." Harper; mother Cecil Etheridge; sisters Jane (Woodie) Vick, Brenda (Pete) Click, Cecelia (Tommy) Jowers; sister-in-law Bobbie (Ken) Wells; brothers-in-law Reggie (Karin) Harper, and Bryan Gowland. She has, also, enjoyed the blessings of many nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her father William Armstrong, stepfather James Horace Etheridge, and sister-in-law Pat Gowland. Services to celebrate the life and Christian legacy of Sue Harper will be held at Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond, Friday, March 4, 2022, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a Christian service to follow.
