Mary Alice Sickels Bankston
June 9, 1926 - January 23, 2022
Mary, age 95, joined her husband in Heaven on Sunday, January 23, 2022. She was a native of Sulphur Springs, TX and a longtime resident of Albany, LA. Mary was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery for many years. She was a strong, independent woman who always put others before herself. Mary took being a Granny seriously and made sure to spoil her grandbabies to the fullest. She worked at Western Auto in Albany for many years and greeted everyone who came in with a smile. Mary never met a stranger and left a huge impact on all those she met. She will be deeply missed. Mary is survived by her daughter, Terri Bankston Prokop; sons, Bobby Joseph Bankston (Penny), Jimmy Leroy Bankston; grandchildren, Corey Joseph Prokop (Smita), Mary Lynn Moran (Trey); and great-granddaughters, Addie Lynn Prokop and Meghana Helen Prokop. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy S. Bankston; parents, Bobby and Janie Sickels; daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Bankston; sister, Gertrude Littlefield; and brothers, RB Sickels and Ray Sickels. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Paralyzed Veterans of America. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Bankston Cemetery.
