Gilbert, age 71, went to his heavenly home, Saturday December 28, 2019. He was a native of the Hungarian Settlement in Albany, LA. Gilbert was a loyal member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and also of the Knights of Columbus Council 10178. He proudly served as a 'Son of American Legion Post 258'. Gilbert was the strong silent type of man who never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. The local Bingo Night will not be the same without his smiling face and helping hands. Gilbert was a loving brother and dear friend who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gilbert is survived by his sister, Ramona K. Jenkins and husband Michael; brother -in-law, Mark Chemay; nephew, David Jenkins and wife Stacey; niece, Laura LeBlanc and husband Jake; great nieces, Jillian, Vivienne and Claire; and great nephew, Samuel. Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Ethel Koleszar; and his sister, Karen Chemay. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson, Hammond, on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Margaret's Catholic Church starting at 12:00 p.m. Father Jamin David will officiate and interment will follow in Church Cemetery.
