Born 2/9/1946 in Winnfield, LA. Jerry Wayne Leeper, Sr. began his journey. He was one of four sons born to Alon & Mary Cannon Leeper. At an early age, Jerry moved with his family to New Orleans where he met & married his wife, Beth Reich Leeper. Early in his odyssey, Jerry became a beloved & respected river boat captain. Together, Jerry & Beth reared their four sons, Michael, Troy, Jerry, Jr. & Chad. Ultimately, Jerry & his family settled in Ponchatoula, LA. where he remained until God called him home. As Jerry navigated through this life, he encountered a multitude of ports which brought him much joy. These landings included his innumerable friendships & relationships, his backyard barbeques, his racetrack days, & his holiday gatherings. But, no matter where Jerry’s ship sailed, his compass always guided him back to his treasured family. Jerry, may you find refuge in God’s harbor. “Aye Aye, Captain, smooth sailing.” Jerry was dad or “Pops” to Michael (Laurie) Troy, Jerry, Jr. (Teresa), & Chad (Gaynell). But, his favorite title may have been Grandpa or “Paw Paw J.J.” to Ryan (Valerie), Shelby (Mike), Aaron (Ashlee), Paige (Brad), Brittney, Kristine (Micah), Nicholas (Mallory), Christopher, Chace, Kyle, Joseph Ryan, Jase, Nataleigh, Emily, Rebekah, Mallorie. Jerry was also great grandfather to Gregory, Abigail, Annabelle, Henry, Silas, Lila, & one on the way. Along with first mate, Rodney ‘Bones’ Davis and brother, James Alon "Buddy" Leeper. Jerry took pride in training numerous young steersmen over the years to be good boat captains. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Alon & Mary Leeper; brothers, Gerald ‘Bo’ Leeper, and Kenny Ray Leeper. PONCHATOULA, LA. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation held in the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 1190 Hwy 51 North PONCHATOULA, on Friday, July 2, 2021, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service starting at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Kip Shuford will officiate, with interment will immediately follow in Carter Cemetery.
