November 24, 1930 - May 5, 2021
Hilda Serigne Alfonso, a native of St. Bernard, LA, and a resident of Ponchatoula, LA, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 90. Who was Hilda Mae, the one and only Chule’. She was the epitome of family. She made Alfred buy pick up trucks and outfit them so we could fit every grandchild in the bed of the truck as we drove frantically from one parade to another eating fried chicken legs from Popeyes. Who cares about seatbelts!!! She taught us the value of sleeping on St. Charles Ave so people had a gathering spot to chase $0.02 beads and the finest China ever to be caught. Who would have thought that Dutz and Hilda would teach us life and friendship by standing on home made ladders that we are all willing to put new borns in and Hey Hey Hey our way into family fun. She was Woodlake. The best Christmas Eve parties ever to be had south of Reggio. She was a cafeteria manager for a school that was built like a jack boat. She was the life of St. Bernard Parish. She was a social butterfly until Mother Nature had a different plan. Although Betsy, Camille, and Katrina took a lot from her, she always went back to the roots of family. To spend 31 years without her husband only epitomized her strength and core values. Live your life for others because you never know when it will be taken from you. It was an honor to have you in our lives. She was the “Mardi Gras Queen” of 840 St. Charles for 66 years at “DaH spot”. Over the years, Hilda, crocheted many baby blankets for everyone in her family. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and dancing, but NOT wrestling! Game shows, baseball, and girl’s softball were her favorite to watch on television. Hilda was a member of the Homemaker Association – St. Bernard Chapter and Tangipahoa Chapter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Hilda is survived by her daughter, Laura Alfonso Baiamonte (Mike); son, Chris Alfonso (Polly); grandchildren, Michael Baiamonte, Jr. (Shannon), Chad Alfonso (Jennifer), Brad Alfonso, Tonya Baiamonte Mayer (Chris), Lisa Baiamonte Dickens (Tizzle), Chris Alfonso, Jr. (Roshelle); great-granchildren, Cole and Chase Baiamonte, Molly, Peyton, and Austin Mayer, Logan and Lily Dickens, Adelaide, Ty, Toby, and Chad Alfonso. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Alfonso, Jr.; father, Jack Serigne; mother, Rita De St. Germain; siblings, Vicky Campo,Vivian Campo, Laura Melerine, Jack (Dutz) Serigne, Freddy Serigne, Paul “Fotchie” Serigne, Herman Serigne, Rita (Bailey) Battle, Mildred “Millie” Talazac, and Norman Serigne.
