    Eunice Krohn Van Zandt

    November 4, 1925 - September 19, 2021

Eunice Theresa Krohn Van Zandt passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, September 19th at the age of 95. She was married for 77 years to her sweetheart and life-long love, George Ennis Van Zandt. Daughter to the late Octavia Orgeron and Clarence Krohn and sister to the late Geraldine Krohn; born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Beloved and cherished mother to Mary Ellen (late Johnny Odom), Theresa Ann (deceased), Michael (Aileen), Christopher (Michelle), Dennis (Monica) and Steven (Karen). She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as her three sister-in-law’s, Mary Demos, and Daughters of Charity Sister Cecelia (Helen) Van Zandt and Sister Ellen (Margaret) Van Zandt. Eunice was a long-time resident of both Harahan and Amite, Louisiana. A woman of great passion and determination, she paved the way for many women in business as a long-time realtor in Jefferson Parish. She was determined to help many people find their very first home, and thus collected many friends along her way who remember her with great fondness. Eunice and her husband owned and ran their own business, George J. Van Zandt Real Estate and Appraisers, for 50 years. She served as a member of the Jefferson Board of Realtors and as President of the Women’s Council of the National Association of Realtors. In 1977, she was awarded Woman of the Year by the Louisiana Chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors. A devoted Catholic with a close relationship to the Blessed Mother, Eunice was a caregiver who took precious care of her daughter Theresa, who was born with a rare syndrome; her sister Geraldine who was affected by scarlet fever, and her mother-in-law, Mamo Van, who lived with Eunice and her family for many years. Eunice, always filled with spirit and enthusiasm for life, enjoyed fishing, board games, football games, gardening, dancing, cooking her special dishes and spending time with family and friends. She was always ready to greet you with her sweet smile, a firm hug, and a long hold of your hand. Although the past few years brought many challenges to Eunice, particularly separation from family, she always had a smile and chuckle for those who visited with her. Until the very end, she wanted only to spend time together with those she loved. The family is very grateful to the Heritage Manor staff for the love and care given to Eunice. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite. In Lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered for the repose of the soul of Eunice. A second Mass will be held by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, in Los Altos Hills, California, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 9:00 am. Burial will take place in November at St. Patrick’s Cemetery #1 in New Orleans.
