Jim Burnthorne passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the age of 87. He was born in New Orleans, was a long-time resident of Hammond, Louisiana, and lived his final years in Covington, Louisiana. Jim was known for his love for his family, his thoughtfulness toward others, his strong sense of integrity, and his devotion to Southeastern Louisiana University where he worked as a locksmith for over 36 years. Jim found joy in beautiful music, good conversation, fishing, watching football, speaking French with anyone who would listen, reading a crisp, new newspaper, and playing checkers. His wisdom and strength will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Reeves Burnthorne; children, Eric Burnthorne Jr., TarĂ¡ Lopez (Carlos), and Kevin Burnthorne; sister, Richlyn Clark (Kenneth); grandchildren, Michael Burnthorne, Jacob Burnthorne, Kristin Burnthorne, Charlie Lopez, Brady Lopez, Cody Selph, Gage Selph; and Dean Morgan and Charlie Chifici who were like sons to him. Jim is preceded in death by his mother Mary Broussard Burnthorne; father and step-mother Richard and Edna Delatte Burnthorne; brothers, Bryan Burnthorne and Donald Burnthorne; sisters, Evelyn Mixon and Carolyn Hicks. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held in the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 HWY 190 West, Hammond, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service that will be officiated by Pastor Dallas Stewart at 1:00 p.m.
