Cecile Edna Duplessis Lea, of Ponchatoula, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the age of 83. Cecile was born March 9, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late, Alfaro Duplessis and Rita Alfonso. Cecile was a member of the Ponchatoula High School Class of 1956. Following high school, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp and was inducted at Ft. McClennan, Alabama in 1956. While serving in the WAC’s she worked as a cook and was stationed in Kentucky, Georgia, and Germany. She later returned as a member of the Army Reserves until 1980. After raising her children, she worked as a cook on an offshore oil rig until she became a field supervisor for D&D Catering Service. As part of her supervisory role, she flew to several oil rigs daily to ensure each kitchen was ran properly. Cecile was a devoted mother of Jimmy Lea (Tracy), Robert Lea (Karen), and Peggy Hagan. She was the proud grandmother of J.J.Lea (Nicole), Jessica Posey (Darrel), Heather Berthelot (James), Jeffrey Lea (Kristen), Lindsay Thompson, Beth O’Krepki (Gus), and Sophia Lea. Her 13 great grandchildren, Hunter, Kyle, Lane, Brynleigh, Gavin, Parker, Ava, Mollie, Sarah, Hagan, Bruce, Hudson, and Mattie are what brought her the most joy. Cecile leaves behind her sisters Judy Monistere (Nat), Mary Wall (Glenn), Katherine Yuhasz (Joe), Norma Williams (Kenneth), and brother Glenn “Tap” Duplessis, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and extended family whom she loved dearly. Maw Maw Cil, as she was affectionately known by all, will be deeply missed. Her family finds comfort knowing the moment she became face to face with Jesus, she was reunited with love ones who proceeded her in death. Her parents Alfaro and Rita Duplessis, sister Dolores “DeeDee” Duplessis, brother Alfaro “Joe” Duplessis, son-in-law Wayne Hagan, and great grandson Hunter Thompson were there to welcome her to heaven. PONCHATOULA, LA Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 1190 Hwy 51 North, Ponchatoula on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Jimmy Wall will officiate with interment to follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery.
