Raymond Scott

Raymond Kenneth Scott, born on June 28, 1922, went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, February 28, 2014, at the age of 91. He proudly served his country, during World War II, in the United States Army 6th Medical Battalion, as a medic in the Pacific for two years. Afterwards, he transported prisoners of war to various camps in the United States and built underground missile silos, during the Cold War. He never knew the phrase, “I Don’t Know How”. His philosophy was, “there’s always a book on how to do it, so just read it, then do it.” He loved tinkering with any type of machinery, building anything that someone needed, reading, fishing and shrimping. He maintained a strong work ethic throughout his entire lifetime, accomplishing the task of building a house, while in his late seventies. Raymond was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, no matter what the project. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and dearly loved his church family. Raymond was a welder and pipefitter for the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union, Local 60, since 1947, primarily building and performing maintenance within the plants along the river. Raymond is survived by his daughters, Pamela Scott of French Settlement, Rebecca S. Braun and husband Buddy of Kenner; grandchildren, Brandy Blount and husband Dwayne, Deirdre Newsom and husband Kirk, Shelby Price and husband Jeremy, Jamie Scott, Lacey Stermer, Kirk Perilloux and wife Kim, Michelle Hart and husband Brett, Raymond M. Scott and wife Heather, Seth Scott, Chris Braun Sr. and wife Stephanie, Ronica Braun-Guidry, Robert Braun and wife Cheiron, Richard Caldwell, Vicki Lambert and husband George, Steven Caldwell, and Sarah Caldwell; 23 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Walter Scott and wife Bertha, Alene Howard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Louise T. Scott; children, Judy S. Caldwell and Michael W. Scott; parents, Sam and Ruth Scott; brothers, Paul and Harold Scott; sisters, Forest Gailey, Estelle Beckwith, Pancy Matthews, Nell Brewer and Patricia Givens. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Ponchatoula on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., until the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Rev.
