Millard Bailey Chaney

Millard was born on March 23, 1933, in Hickory, MS to the late Leonard Bailey Chaney and Myrtis Gertrude Burks Chaney. He passed away at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA on September 3, 2022, at the age of 89 after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. Millard lived his younger years in Philadelphia, MS along with his 4 siblings. He left school when he was 17 and joined the Marines and served in the Korean War. Millard later finished his high school education. He married Doris Wells in 1953 in Forest, MS while he was serving in the Marines. They remained married until her death in 2002. To this union, they had 4 children. Millard worked for Ormet Aluminum Plant in Gonzales, LA for many years and was a supervisor in utilities until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed jogging, playing music, playing golf, collecting coins, woodworking, and traveling. Millard loved spending time throughout the years with his family having reunions, family dinners, and playing cards. He was a talented musician and played several instruments by ear. Millard was a member of the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society. In 2004, he married a fellow musician in the club, Larie Walker Witt, in Denham Springs, LA. He is survived by his wife, Larie Chaney; daughters, Patricia Laurence (Keith) of Denham Springs, Sharon Lambert (Michael of St. Amant, Lisa LeBlanc (Wayne) of LaPlace; son, Michael “Mickey” Chaney of Baton Rouge; step-daughter, Sarah Ness (Justin) of Prairieville; sisters, Jane Hodgins, Orbadean Vines, Deborah Posey all of Philadelphia, MS; grandchildren, Kelly and Scott Laurence, Jared and Jason Lambert, David and Daniel LeBlanc; step-grandchildren, Elijah, Benjamin, Jaith Ness, Lori Russell, Hollie Ballard; great-grandchildren, Gage Laurence, Annie and Chaney Laurence, Michael and Megan Lambert, Sadie LeBlanc; step-great-grandchildren, Blakely Ness, Kris and Kamron Tamplet, Anna Grace and Troy Falgout, Clyde and Travis Henry; great-great-step-granddaughter, Kinsley Marie Tamplet; and many nieces and nephews. Millard is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wells Chaney; parents; brother, Charles Buford Chaney; mother-in-law, Edna Coder; and daughter-in-law, Linda Adams Chaney. Pallbearers will be: Jared and Jason Lambert, David and Daniel LeBlanc, Scott and Gage Laurence, Butch Hodgins, and David Chaney. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice in His Care and The Crossing at Clarity Hospice for their exceptional care of Millard. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 7738 Florida Blvd. Denham Springs, LA 70736 on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Hope Haven Garden of Memory in Gonzales at 2:00 p.m.
