Macel Kelly Bourgeois

Macel Jean Kelly Bourgeois was born on September 16, 1936 in McComb, MS. She is the daughter of the late William Truly Kelly and Fannie Regina Miller. She grew up in a loving family of nine brothers and sisters. Macel lived in Ponchatoula, LA. during her middle and high school years. Macel married the love of her life, Robert Andrew Bourgeois, in 1954. They relocated to the New Orleans area where they raised their three children, Sarah, Ronnie, and Robbie. She went on to achieve an Associates Degree in nursing from Nichols State University. She practiced as a Registered Nurse in the public health sector until her retirement. Macel and Robert also lived in Carriere and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. They returned to live in Hammond in their later years where they were active charter members of Westside Baptist Church. Macel was a loving wife and a faithful and devoted mother of her three children. She was so treasured for her wise and loving counsel to her family and friends in her soft and unassuming manner. She was also appreciated for her dry and witty sense of humor. She loved reading, going on lunch dates with her family, preparing large meals on holidays, and keeping up with social and political events. The single treasure that carried her through the years, and now onward, was her love for and trust in her savior, Jesus. Macel Jean Kelly Bourgeois passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at her home in Hammond, Louisiana. Macel Bourgeois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Andrew Bourgeois; her sons, Ronald David Bourgeois and Robert Andrew Bourgeois, Jr.; as well as her grandson, Jeremy Romano; and her many brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Bourgeois Larson and husband Lars Larson; her daughter-in-law, Terry Bourgeois Mulhearn and husband Thomas Mulhearn; her sister, Jaunita Sue Danna; her brother Robert Joseph Kelly; her grandchildren Olivia Brooke Romano and husband E.J. Lachendro, Jordan Lee Romano and wife Ashley Romano, Derrick Paul Bourgeois, Alexis Blake Miller, and Abigail Grace Miller; and her great-grandchildren Eleanor Grace Romano, Laney Rose Romano, and Lyla Jean Romano. PONCHATOULA, LA. Evening visitation for family and friends will be held at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Pastor Dickie Nelson will officiate, and interment to follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
