John P. Hutchinson

John, age 82, went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at his home in Albany, LA. He was a man whose life was defined by hard work and an unwavering commitment to his family. Blessed with many talents and skills, John never hesitated to put them to use to provide for those he loved. Whether working with his hands, solving a problem, or helping someone in need, he approached every task with determination and a work ethic that earned the respect of all who knew him. Outside of work, John found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time fishing, riding horses, and enjoying the outdoors, and was the fastest quick draw around. These moments brought him peace and happiness and often became the backdrop for the countless stories he loved to tell. A gifted storyteller, John, had a way of bringing people together. His stories, humor, and larger-than-life personality made him widely known throughout the community. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His willingness to lend a helping hand touched countless lives. Children held a special place in his heart. Known affectionately as "Poppa," he loved making people laugh, sharing stories, and just simply making someone smile. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, laughter, and the lessons he shared will live on through his family, friends, and community. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraline Hutchinson; daughter, April Morgan (Tim); sons, Sherman Hutchinson (Sam), Carey Ray Hutchinson (Kimberly), Larry Todd Hutchinson (Dodie); sisters, Arlene Hano (Junior), Wanda Colkmire (Floyd); grandchildren, Cameron Hutchinson (Amie), Courtney Jennings, Heather Sisemore (Chris), TJ Morgan (Becka), Christopher Hutchinson (Sarah), Darci Goodwin (Haiden), Landon Morgan (Jenna), Lil Carey Hutchinson (Kayla), Kylin Newman (Colby), Todd Hutchinson, Katelynn Hutchinson, Maddie Oubre, Ethan Hebert, Deslie Hutchinson, Pearson Hutchinson, Remi Hutchinson; and 20 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents, Shelly and Millie Hutchinson; brother, Larry Hutchinson; and sisters, Irene Hutchinson, Ida Hutchinson Stafford, and Mary “Boots” Hutchinson Wagner. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Modern Hospice Care Team for all of their help. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Bro. Ben Stratton and Bro. Scott Cooksey will officiate with interment will follow in Blood River Baptist Church Cemetery.
