John L. Gregoire

John L. Gregoire Johnny, age 81, passed away on January 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula, LA. Johnny retired from Shell Oil after dedicating 37 years of work. He was very active in his community. Johnny was a member of the Father Vander Heyden Council 4874 of the Knights of Columbus and of the Father Martin Assembly. He was on the board of the Strawberry Festival where he served as Chairman and Strawberry King. He was also, a board member of the Collinswood Museum, very active with the Tangi Tourism Commission, a member of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed commercial fishing, farming, and hunting; but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was known for cooking a great pot of jambalaya. Johnny was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. Johnny is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Cynthia Bates Gregoire; daughters, Andrea LeFebvre (Andrew Sr.) of Baton Rouge, Yvette Gregoire Cornish (Christopher) of New York, Amber Gregoire Gardner (Bryan) of Ponchatoula; twin sister, Catherine Arnold; brother, Willie Gregoire; and 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Louis Gregoire Sr.; and sister, Willa Dean Marcello. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, The Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, 3772 N. Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70806, or SE LA War Veterans Home in Reserve, 4080 W. Airline Hwy Reserve, LA 70084 in his honor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, at 11:00 a.m. Fr.
