Janice Faye Cowart

It is with profound sadness that we announce that on Thursday, November 4, 2021, Janice Faye Cowart, age 68, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior. Janice was born in Hammond, LA on July 11, 1953 to her parents Thelma Hutchinson Cowart and her father, the late Leroy Cowart. Janice was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, David Arceneaux. Janice was the proud mother of Melissa Cowart Suren (husband Ben) and Branden Cowart, and also the loving and devoted grandmother of Madilyn “Maddie” Suren. Janice was the sister of Barbara Cowart Neal (husband Ronny), Jeannette Cowart Lott (husband Raymond) and Gail Cowart Arceneaux. After graduating from Southeastern and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with two Masters Degrees, she shared the word of God as a missionary in Taiwan, China for 5 years. After she retuned home, her life was given new purpose when she adopted Branden and Melissa. They were her whole world and she loved them both unconditionally, never missing a single basketball or football game during their tenure as player and colorguard member. Her granddaughter, Maddie, was her favorite weekend companion and you could often find them together tending to her flower beds or having lunch in town. Continuing her mission work, she served as board member for the Women’s Mission Union. She loved visiting the elderly and taught two bible study groups at the assisted living facility in her hometown. She spent much of her free time at Bethlehem Baptist Church where she always felt at home and took great pride in serving. Janice lived and loved like Christ and she will be missed by every heart she touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Janice on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 29350 S. Montpelier Rd, Albany, LA 70711 starting at 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM following the visitation there at the church. Graveside services will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. A celebration of life lunch will be served in the fellowship hall after all services, just as Janice wished for.
