Howard K. "Red" Sibley

A great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Howard K. Sibley departed this earthly life at the age of 86 on May 28, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on April 4, 1932 to P.W. and Lena Sibley with whom he has joined in Heaven, along with his 2 sisters, Katherine Berhman and Gloria Morel, and a brother P. W. Sibley Jr. Most importantly, he is with his youngest daughter, Alice Marie Sibley, who we know was waiting for him. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Bonnie Sartwell Sibley; as well as one son, Joey and wife Donna; two daughters, Lea and Guy McDonald, Julie and Lonnie Watts, and Alice’s spouse, Don Amos; and his two brothers, Glenn Sibley and wife Rose, and Ralph Sibley and wife Sandra. ‘Poppa Red’, as he was affectionately known, loved his whole family and was very proud of each one of them. He has 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Jacob and Monica, Mandy and David, Coy and Kristin, Jennifer and Phillip, Kerri and Bradley, Elizabeth and Tyler, Claudia and Hannah. His love for his family did not end with the 8 grandchildren but extended to the 12 great-grandchildren and the 3 more on their way. Poppa Red said that he had a ‘great life’ which included serving during the Korean Conflict. This led him to Southeastern College where he received a Bachelors, Masters, and plus 30 degrees. He used this education to become a teacher, coach, and eventually a Principal. After retirement he and Bonnie spent many great years traveling and working in their antique shop. Countless hours were spent in his ‘outback’ shop and yard repairing and building furniture. Pallbearers will be his grandsons with honorary pallbearers; Dennis Ducote, Jack Watson, Jeff Taylor, and Jude Bailey. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Livingston United Methodist Church at P. O. Box 155 Livingston, LA 70754 in honor of Papa Red. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Livingston United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rick Wright will officiate the service and interment will follow in Sibley Cemetery on Cane Market Road.
