Henry King Jones Sr.

Henry King Jones, Sr. affectionately known as “Man-Dee” or “Dee” peacefully entered eternal rest on December 13, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and was raised in the Lower Ninth Ward. Henry was the beloved husband of Elaine DeSilva Jones for 56 years. He was a devoted father to Cindy Lynn McGinnis (Kendall) and Henry King Jones, Jr. (Emma). He was a proud grandfather of Keenen Braxton McGinnis, Kameron Brandon McGinnis, Tyren King Jones, and Marques King Jones, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Jones and Vera King Jones; his siblings Lester Jones, Murray Jones, Sr. and Ethel Mitchell. Henry is survived by his siblings Eleanor Howard, Joseph Gant, Sr., Alnette Williams, and Anthony Jones, Sr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. Henry was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver Senior High School, Class of 1967. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War 1968 through 1969. He attained the military status of Sergeant and carried his military pride throughout his life. Following his military service, Henry dedicated 33 years of hard work and loyalty to Tenneco Oil/Exxon Mobil Refinery before retiring. Henry was a founding member of the Woodmere Social Riders Association from 2017 to 2019 and was the owner of Back-to-Basics Hair and Nail Salon, a business where he proudly supported his daughter Cindy as a Hair Stylist. Henry was a man of determination and perseverance. He enjoyed building and racing cars, auto mechanics, antiques, collecting treasured items, and capturing life’s moments through photography. Known for his strong will and work ethic, Henry was a man who believed in getting things done – no matter the challenge. His legacy of strength, love, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Visitation will be held Monday, December 22, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral services from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, located at 12012 Highway 190 West, Hammond, Louisiana 70401. The service will be officiated by Pastor Claudia Williams of Healing Word Outreach Ministries in Jackson, Mississippi. Interment with military honors will take place Monday, December 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, Louisiana 70460. The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to North Oaks Hospital, the Doctors of the VA Hospital in New Orleans, Passages Hospice, Hospice of Baton Rouge, Oasis Rehabilitation Hospital, Egan-Ochsner Home Health of Covington, Hammond VA Clinic, Heart Clinic of Hammond, and Genefic Infusion, LLC for their compassionate care and support.
