Grace Powers Pope Crnko

Grace Helen Powers Pope Crnko, age 96, passed peacefully from this mortal life at her home of 72 years in Livingston, Louisiana, on September 11, 2019. She was born in Grangeville, Louisiana, on January 31, 1923. She was the daughter of Frank Peavy Powers, Sr. and Bettie Morgan Powers, both of Grangeville. Grace loved her Lord, her church, community, flowers, travel, bright colors, her pets and, most of all, her family. She was a keen business woman, a scholarly Sunday School teacher and an excellent cook. She loved to fish and was always trying to catch “Walter”. She was a prankster and enjoyed a good laugh. Her friends and family loved to call her Amazing Grace. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She touched many lives during her 96 years and she will be greatly missed. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Mack Albert Pope, II and Gary William Crnko; sons Mack Albert Pope, III and Ronald Powers Pope; grandson Mack Albert Pope, IV; siblings, Dorothy Powers Thompson, Betty Powers Woods and Frank Peavy Powers, Jr. Grace is survived by her children Helen Anne Pope, Janice Kaye Pope Ouber, Gary Stephen Crnko (Bonnie Eakin Crnko) and Lisa Rene Crnko Helmstetter (Lennie Helmstetter). She is also survived by grandchildren Harriet Pope Corban, Ronald Pope, Jr., John Pope, Melissa Ouber Cothern, Troy Ouber, Adam Crnko, Seth Crnko and Emma Crnko; great-grandchildren Mack Pope, Alex Pope, Megean Tarver, Natasha Pope, Grace Pope, Stanton Taylor, Holly Sheets, Jordan Pope, Anna Pope, Wyatt Smith, Victoria Smith, Charles Cothern and Lauren Evans; and by great-great-grandchildren, Alexa Taylor, Emily Taylor, Lyla Sheets and Zachariah Pope. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ramona Powers and Jeanette Crnko plus an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, including Dr. Evelyn Hayes. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Crystal Barbazon and Nicole Juneau who were Grace’s professional and caring hospice nurses and to the loving caregivers, Margaret Harmon, Michelle Williams, Billie Anne Hutchinson, Charlotte Skarr and Pat Johnson. Services celebrating the life of Grace will be held Monday, September 16, 2019, at 11 am, at the First Baptist Church of Livingston, 29401 S. Frost Road, Livingston, Louisiana, 70754. Visitation will be at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 US-190, Hammond, Louisiana, 70401, Sunday, September 15, from 6-8 pm and at the First Baptist Church from 9-11 am prior to services which will be conducted by her nephew, Robert Earl Thompson. Interment will be in the Old Red Oak Cemetery following the service.
