Gerald B. Owens Sr.

Gerald B. Owens, Sr. Gerald Owens, Sr, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savoir on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Richard Murphy Hospice House. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 and was stationed in Heidelburg, Germany. Gerald was a member of the American Legion for over 40 years. He was a pillar of the community and was often referred to as the “Mayor of Baptist”. Gerald enjoyed traveling in his RV with his lovely wife, his favorite spots were seeing the Christmas lights in Pigeon Forge and the beaches of Gulf Shores. He also enjoyed riding his Kubota tractor and keeping his yard up. Gerald was a proud owner of several businesses in the area upon retirement and enjoyed buying and selling land and real estate. Above all else, he was a family man and treasured his time spent with his family and friends. Gerald was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all. Gerald leaves behind his adoring wife of 64 years, Amy Lamartiniere Owens; daughters, Debbie Owens Stewart (Glen), Wanda Owens Bankston (David), and Stacey Owens; sons, Gerald “Jerry” Owens Jr (Denise), and Jimmy Owens (Jennifer); sister, Rita Mae Owens Jones (Dale); grandchildren, Angela Owens Daniel, Trey and Tyler Owens, Brent Sherman and Alissa Stewart Dunn, Jennifer Bankston Milton, West Rountree, and Emily Owens; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Meghan Sherman, Timmy and Vicki Milton, Charlie and Corben Owens, Lainey and Eli Dunn, and Brady and Connor Daniel; as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie N. Owens, Sr and Nora Landry Owens; sisters, Marie Chapman, Doris Miller, Joyce O’Neill, and Dorothy Owens Milton; and brothers, Kenneth Owens, Kevlin Owens, and Willie Owens Jr. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Richard Murphy Hospice House and Heart of Hospice for their exceptional care. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Natalbany Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Bro.
