Emily Jeanette Thompson Brown

Emily Jeanette Thompson Brown, age 93 of Ponchatoula, LA, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, with her devoted family by her side. Jeanette was born on July 1, 1928 near Montpelier, LA to Henry and Minnie Wascom Thompson. She owned and operated the grocery store across from the old Ponchatoula High School for many years. She later retired from the Tangipahoa Parish School System as a food services employee. Jeanette was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the Rainbow Girls Program. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially at Christmas, and was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Atlanta Braves and the New Orleans Saints. She is survived by daughters, Margaret Joiner, Susan Lupo (John), Sharon “Sister” Melancon (Wayne), and Clara Latino (Michael); son, Ira “Brother” Brown Jr. (Ginger); 14 grandchildren, Melanie Taylor (Ben), Martha Thompson (Brandon), Emily Matise (Danny), Stormy Joiner (Monique), Joshua Lupo (Carolina), Jeffrey Lupo (Stevey), Whitney Balingit (Andrew), Tom Brown (Julie), Amanda Brown, Jennifer Cook (Brandon), Melissa Melancon (Christopher), Eric Latino (Kori), Kimberly Lirette (Ryan), Matthew Latino; 17 great- grandchildren, Gabby Taylor (Connor), Lauren Gaudin (D.J.), Madison Thompson, Tori Thompson, Brandon Thompson Jr., Dillon Joiner (Kayla), Madison Carpenter, Henry Oliver Balingit, Nathan Brown (Kirsten), Emma Brown, Hannah Cook, Tristan “T.J.” Cook, Reyse Costanza, Landon Costanza, Laykin Costanza, Avery Latino, Anna Lirette; great-great-grandchildren, Adeline Gaudin, Annie Gaudin, Tyler Brown; brothers, John “Red” Thompson and Richard Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ira Ceacel Brown; sisters Lela Thompson and Virginia “Cake” Carroll; sons-in-law Harry McKneely, Jr. and Owen “Sonny” Joiner Jr.; grandson, Shannon Joiner. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held in the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 1190 Hwy 51 North Ponchatoula LA 70454, on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, beginning at 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am.
