Edna Louise Skipper Welborn ?When we have done all the work we were sent to do, we are allowed to shed our bodies, which imprison our souls like a cocoon encloses the butterfly and when the time is right, we can let go of it. A resident of Albany and member of Blood River Baptist Church, Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. With family by her bedside, she passed on to be with her Lord Jesus on Monday, October 6, 2008. The second of eight children she was born on September 12, 1934 to the late Ruth and Luther D. Skipper, Sr. On October 26, 1956, Edna married Austin Earl Welborn and together they had three daughters. Edna attended Northwestern Louisiana University and received her degree in Nursing. Years later she felt the call of teaching and attended Southeastern Louisiana University and obtained her Bachelors Degree and her Masters Degree in Education. A junior high teacher at Holden High School for 21 years, she touched the hearts and minds of many children. Thirteen years ago she battled and survived breast cancer and was an inspiration to others fighting the disease. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Austin Earl Welborn of Albany; daughter, Beth Edwards and husband, Jamie of Watson; daughters, Cynthia Welborn and Tina McAlister, both of Albany; grandchildren, Stephanie Welborn of Hammond, Mark Raborn of Albany, Christopher Edwards and wife Paige of Shreveport, Carol Ann Edwards of Watson, Brittany McAlister and Brandon McAlister, both of Albany. She leaves behind brothers, Luther Skipper, Jr., Raymond Skipper and Bobby Skipper along with two sisters, Allene Skipper Hoss and Mary Skipper White, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her parents, Ruth and Luther Skipper, Sr., a sister, Sherrie Skipper Guthrie and a brother, James Skipper preceded her in death. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from Blood River Baptist Church in Albany on Friday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond on Thursday, October 9th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at Blood River Baptist Church on Friday beginning at 8:30 a.m. until the religious service time. Rev. Charles Reitz will officiate the services and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a special thanks to the caring nurses at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. Everywhere I look I am constantly reminded of her. My heart is heavy, for now there is emptiness within, that can never be filled.
