Dewey Wayne Albritton

Dewey Wayne Albritton passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the age of 66. He was born in Ouachita Parish and was a resident of Walker, LA. He is survived by the following: his loving bride of 40 years, Susan Stewart Albritton, his sons Andrew Albritton (Haley) and Michael Albritton (Ashley), grandchildren, Carmen, Nolan, Lucas, and Madelyn, brothers, Douglas Albritton and Jonathan Albritton, sisters, Patricia Cockrell (Kenneth) and Anne Albritton and step-mother, Diane Albritton. Wayne was also survived by a number of cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Dewey G. Albritton and Rosalind Eberts, and his sisters, Jennifer Harris and Janis Armand. Wayne served as a Navy Seabee where his proudest accomplishment was contributing to the development of the naval support facility, Diego Garcia. He spent his civilian career as both an auto mechanic and an auto insurance appraiser. “Coach Wayne” enjoyed his involvement in his children’s sports growing up including officiating and coaching baseball, football, and basketball. Wayne was a lifelong LSU fan who enjoyed cheering his Tigers on in multiple sports. His hobbies included spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle, kayaking, and making people laugh. Wayne was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing his dishes with his friends and family. One of his favorite things was fishing with his children and grandchildren. Wayne adored his dogs, Artemis and Roux, who were a constant comfort in his last few years. Wayne developed a passion late in life for creating guitars. It brought him great joy to collaborate on building guitars with his brother as they learned this craft together. Wayne’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Vincent Cataldo in addition to the nurses and assistants at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital 5th Floor West for the skill and compassion demonstrated during Wayne’s illness. They would also like to thank Ms. Yvonne, with housekeeping, who went above and beyond her responsibilities in a way that left a permanent mark on the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Biscuit Ministry, in care of Shelley Thomas at 1950 Britton Rd, West Monroe, LA 71291. The unhoused women served by this ministry have been prayerful supporters of the Albritton family since Wayne’s diagnosis.
