Capt. Randy Miller

Captain Randy Miller, at the age 64, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025. A devoted resident of Hammond, Louisiana, Randy dedicated his life to the service of his community, proudly serving for 36½ years as a Hammond Police Officer. During his distinguished career, Randy helped establish the Hammond Police Department’s Honor Guard and took great pride in mentoring younger officers. He generously shared his knowledge, always striving to help others become their best. Randy was a kindhearted man that was ready to help anyone in need but rarely asked for help himself. He took his job seriously but didn’t take himself too seriously – he was the quiet jokester that everyone loved. Randy loved creating anything by hand – models, woodworking, craft projects around the house. He was a carpenter by trade, but a policeman by heart. Randy found joy in the simple things and valued time spent with those he loved most. Among all the titles he held in life, none was more cherished than "Popo" to his granddaughters. His love for his family was deep and unwavering. Randy's life was one of quiet strength, selfless service, and deep love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. Randy is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cherri Miller; daughter, Denise Lynn Miller; son, Thomas Anthony Miller and wife Heather; sisters, Connie Gulley and Debbie Roig; brother, Darryl Miller; and grandchildren, Emma Jean Miller, Ruth Anne Miller, and Elly Rose Miller. Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bassel Miller and Lorena Miller; sister, Paulette Hagan; and sibling who was stillborn at birth. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home 12012 Hwy. 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will resume on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Officiated by Pastor Andy Stafford.
