Alvin "Punkin" Curtis Ryan

Alvin “Punkin” Curtis Ryan, age 75, passed away on September 27, 2024. He was born and raised in Ponchatoula where he graduated from Ponchatoula High School and was named Mr. PHS in 1967. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought overseas in Vietnam. In his two years he received a medal for Nation Defense Service, the Vietnamese Service medal; and the Combat Action ribbon. During his service he was also recognized for his athleticism in football. Alvin dedicated 31 years to his career at Dupont as a shift mechanic, and over 40 years as a commercial fisherman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a great sports fan and enjoyed not only attending games, but also playing and coaching. One of his greatest joys in life was his family, and he particularly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Kali Ray. Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and so much more. He will be greatly missed by all those that dearly loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Nancy Steib Ryan; sons, Chad Ryan (Jennifer), Russ Ryan (Rechell), and Kyle Ryan (Kayla); grandchildren, Hannah (Brennan), Cooper, Olivia, Cody (Cassidy), Ashley (Brandon), Kamryn, and Kali Ray; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Aiden, and Lucas; sister-in-laws, Patti Steib and Debbie Schanzbach (Michael); brother-in-laws, Craig Steib Sr. (Renee), Brian Steib (Cindy), and Marc Steib (Billy); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, James “Billy” and Eva “Frosty” Ryan; brothers, Charles “Dago” Kraft, John “Red” Jacob Kraft Jr., and James “Slippery” Ryan; sister, Veronica “Chicken” Souza; brother-in-law, Ron Steib; sister-in-law, Wanda Steib Castell; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Godfrey and Joy Steib. A special thanks to Dr. Mena and his staff, North Oaks Surgery and staff, and SICU and their staff for their tireless efforts, compassion, and care. Thompson Funeral Home, 1190 Hwy. 51 North Ponchatoula, LA 70454, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery.
