Rosemary Cassreino Bonaccorso

Rosemary Bonaccorso (neé Cassreino) went to her heavenly home on January 18, 2025 at the age of 95. Rosemary was born in the Irish Channel of New Orleans but married the love of her life in Hammond, Louisiana in 1944. Most recently, she was a long-time resident of Landmark Nursing Center of Hammond, but in her younger years, she was a devout member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Rosemary had an infectious laugh and she enjoyed playing card and board games with her children and grandchildren, teaching them valuable life lessons in good sportsmanship and healthy competitiveness. Rosemary was a champion speller, as many found out over a “friendly” game of Scrabble. She was a natural caregiver who never turned down an opportunity to babysit her grandchildren, and she took special pride in cooking and baking for her family. Rosemary especially loved a good chat over coffee (and, in her last years, a hot mocha) anytime of the day or night. She always had a prayer ready for any loved one in need, which she offered with a reassuring hug and a smile. Most of all, Rosemary was a matriarch who patiently, selflessly and unconditionally loved her family. She will be forever loved and missed beyond measure. Rosemary is survived by her daughters, Agnes Bogle and Florence Bonaccorso-Saenz (Steven); sons, Sidney Bonaccorso (Linda) and John Bonaccorso (Doris); her daughter-in-law, Shirley Bonaccorso (neé Dousay); 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and the lifelong sister of her heart, Betty Bacon (neé James). Rosemary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest F. Bonaccorso, Sr.; her parents, Sidney Cassreino and Florence Cassreino (neé James); sons, Ferdinand “Skip” Bonaccorso and Ernest F. Bonaccorso, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel and Anne Marie; and a beloved son-in-in law, John E. Bogle. The family would like to extend special thanks to Landmark Nursing Center of Hammond for their nearly 14 years of loving care of their mother, and also thank all of those who visited with Rosemary and brought her happiness during her years at Landmark. Relatives and friends of the family, including any Landmark staff who cared for Rosemary are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Saturday January 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Fr. Charles Johnson, O.P., will officiate and interment will follow in Rose Memorial Cemetery.
